Grab your Detective hat and your passport, we are going to Norway! Death Deserved by Thomas Enger & Jørn Lier Horst tsl by Anne Bruce @OrendaBooks #Orentober #NordicNoir

Police officer Alexander Blix and celebrity blogger Emma Ramm join forces to track down a serial killer with a thirst for attention and high-profile murders, in the first episode of a gripping new Nordic Noir series…

Oslo, 2018. Former long-distance runner Sonja Nordstrøm never shows at the launch of her controversial autobiography, Always Number One. When celebrity blogger Emma Ramm visits Nordstrøm’s home later that day, she finds the door unlocked and signs of a struggle inside. A bib with the number ‘one’ has been pinned to the TV.

Police officer Alexander Blix is appointed to head up the missing-persons investigation, but he still bears the emotional scars of a hostage situation nineteen years earlier, when he killed the father of a five-year-old girl. Traces of Nordstrøm soon show up at different locations, but the appearance of the clues appear to be carefully calculated … evidence of a bigger picture that he’s just not seeing…

Blix and Ramm soon join forces, determined to find and stop a merciless killer with a flare for the dramatic, and thirst for attention.
Trouble is, he’s just got his first taste of it…

As you may all be aware of, I’m one of those readers that reads the raving reviews of the books I have on my shelf, then even though I really want to read them in that moment, I get a bit of TBR guilt and wait until months after release date to binge read said raved about books. It’s true, ask Kelly! Death Deserved was on my bookshelf for almost 4 months until I picked it up and boy, it’s right, good things come to those who wait! I had a blast, those raving reviews are right but more about that later.

Death Deserved was co-written by Thomas Enger and Jorn Lier Horst, then translated by Anne. It was published in paperback on the 20th of February (see told you i’m always late to the book party) and you can grab yourself a copy here. If you enjoy the ability to read in the dark, you can purchase an electronic copy directly from Orenda Books estore here.

Immediately when you begin reading Death Deserved you know that this read is going to be the bookish embodiment of chilling and sinister. What begins as one missing celebrity, quickly spirals into a twisted game of cat and mouse, at the centre of the investigation is our main protagonist Alexander Blix who at first is a complete mystery. When you meet Blix, you know he’s intelligent, one of the best investigators that the Nordic police have but you’re also aware that he has a past that still haunts him. The allure of his personal story had me gripped, his personal depth shows his passionate side also. Coupled with the characters, the accumulating celebrity deaths and gritty details, you’ll be hooked, hooked I tell you!

In walks Emma Ramm, the celebrity blogger and our duo is born, and finding the flamboyant serial killer is their game – see where your detective hat comes in handy?

Let’s talk about the evil that Blix and Ramm is chasing, as the storyline unravels you learn that this isn’t your ordinary serial killer, he has an intelligent flare – leaving clues and just keeping out of reach of our dream team. There’s an intoxicating danger that lurks in the shadows, one that echoes throughout the book. This murderously good book is filled with suspense, nail-biting tension and great attention to detail. I love a great police procedural read, especially when it’s the beginning of a series. The foundations have been laid down for what I am sure is going to be a superb, edge of seat and innovative series that is sure to become your favourite.
