Ten years ago, Jess’s mother was murdered by the Magpie Man.
She was the first of his victims but not the last. Now Jess is the star of a Youtube reality series and she’s using it to catch the killer once and for all. The whole world is watching her every move. And so is the Magpie Man.

My thanks to Anne Cater for the opportunity to be a part of the blog tour for this new YA thriller, as well as Penguin Books UK for sending me out a copy in preparation of the tour. Are You Watching? Is the debut thriller from Vincent Ralph, for fans of One of Us is Lying and Nerve, this is definitely the read for you. Published on the 6th of February you can order yourself a copy here.
Are You Watching? Is a written based on quite the clever concept – To Catch A Killer meets social technology. Jessica has the brilliant novel to get involved with a day in the life type YouTube show, her aim is to shine some light on the murders of 15 individuals, one being her mothers. With social media and apps alike becoming more involved in the developments of thrillers, I thought Are You Watching? was rather different, especially when Jess has become the voice of justice when it comes to the victims of the Magpie Man. I have to admit, this is what hooked me. The whole plot is absorbing, that will very occasionally have you holding your breathe and feeling the chill of someone watching you sweep over your skin.
The concept of Jess hunting her mother’s murderer through the use of technology gripped me, I became suspicious of every single character and although not an ultimately dark thriller, it had my heart-racing as I cheered Jess on while also fearing for her safety. Vincent has demonstrated his writing skills by devising a well plotted and easy to follow read, that’s unravels at a great pace while lulling the reader further in.
Are You Watching? Is the perfect binge read with its short snappy chapters and the atmospheric writing that pulls you in, you feel like a fly on the wall and you can’t help but get sucked in to the campaign for justice. All in all a really great thriller, although it’s hasn’t much gore (it is a YA so that is expected) it doesn’t sacrifice any of the tension echoed throughout the read. Great read and I really look forward to Vincent’s future works!
